About Katherine
I am a lover of all Gems and Crystals and Making Jewelry is my creative passion. My number one priority and passion has always been my 3 daughters, aka, My 3 Gems. My beautiful gems come first and now that they are getting older, it’s time for me to share my other passion with the world again. I love creating jewelry for others to wear and experience the beautiful energy I felt when I hand picked each bead, stone or crystal. I source quality stones and beads that catch my eye through their unique color, shape or sparkle.
Here’s my story of how Katherine Ann Jewelry came to life!
My love for jewelry started when I was young. I can only assume I inherited this love from my Pops. He is a lover of gemstones and gold and he isn’t afraid to wear multiple necklaces, rings and bracelets all at the same time. His pinky rings are my favorite!
I have memories of visiting both sides of my grandparents homes and going through my grandma's velvet lined jewelry boxes admiring all their special treasures. My favorites were the broaches with lots of stones and sparkle.
I started making myself jewelry out of tin foil as it reflected the light and had its own sparkle. Then a bead store opened in my town and it became my favorite place to spend my babysitting money.
I was self taught, never had instruction and created pieces using beads and crystals.
After attending College and becoming a preschool teacher, I always had some sort of art lesson for my students to create jewelry. We used paper, plastic straws, noodles and anything else I could find to string onto a cord and create a necklace.
When my first daughter was born, I was blessed to be able and choose to stay home with my baby. I was craving creativity and started my first jewelry business, Glitzy Baby. I used Swarovski crystals to create name bracelets for women to show off their baby’s names, in sparkle of course! My business was booming and it was fun, but then my second Gem was born and my focus needed to be with my girls. I put my passion for creating jewelry aside and gave my girls all of me to help them grow. I always knew I wanted to get back into jewelry making, but it needed to be the right time as I wanted to take my self taught skills to a new level.
After my third Gem started school, I decided to enroll in an evening jewelry school a few nights a week. This is where my dreams became reality. I was finally able to learn how to metal smith, wax carve and stone set.
Several years have passed and depending on the level of volunteering with my Gems schools, Girl Scouts and many other organizations with my Gems, gauges how much time I get at my work bench. A slow progression to say the least. But, I kept pushing along when I could and here we are today.
I hope you enjoy my handy work and choose to add a piece of my creative passion to your jewelry box.
